Anti‐herbivore silicon defences in a model grass are greatest under Miocene levels of atmospheric CO 2

چکیده
Abstract Silicon (Si) has an important role in mitigating diverse biotic and abiotic stresses plants, mainly via the silicification of plant tissues. Environmental changes such as atmospheric CO 2 concentrations may affect grass Si which, turn, can alter herbivore performance. We recently demonstrated that pre‐industrial increased accumulation Brachypodium distachyon grass, yet patterns deposition leaves whether this affects insect performance remains unknown. Moreover, it is unclear ‐driven are linked to gas exchange (e.g. transpiration rates). therefore investigated how (reduced; rCO , 200 ppm), ambient (aCO 410 ppm) elevated (eCO 640 concentrations, combination with Si‐treatment (Si+ or Si−), affected B. its subsequent effect on global pest, Helicoverpa armigera . by 29% 36% compared aCO eCO respectively. These were not related observed under different regimes, however. The decreased relative growth rate (RGR) 120% 2, whereas caused RGR decrease 26% supplementation also density macrohairs, silica prickle cells, which was associated reduced There a negative correlation among macrohair density, cell suggesting these leaf surface morphology regime. To our knowledge, first study demonstrate reduces Contrastingly, we found higher suggests some grasses become more susceptible herbivores projected climate change scenarios.

متن کاملGrowth of silicon nanowires in aqueous solution under atmospheric pressure
A new method for growing silicon nanowires was presented. They were grown in an aqueous solution at a temperature of 85 oC under atmospheric pressure by using sodium methylsiliconate as a water‐soluble silicon precursor. The structure, morphology, and composition of the as‐grown nanowires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and en...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
Evaluation of cardiovascular and respiratory mortality attributed to atmospheric SO2 and CO using AirQ model
Background: Air pollutants have multiple adverse effects on human health. In this study, the health effects of exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) and SO2 in the air of 6 Iranian metropolises in 2011-2012 were examined. Methods: Raw data was collected from the Iranian Department of Environment and the Iran Meteorological Organization. After validation, the required statistical indices were calcul...
